ABOUT ME
My name is Em Ziminsky, a painter who uses the visual language of scientific diagrams to anchor surreal, emotional portraits in a world that is both familiar to few and unsettling to many. Bridging the stasis of Vermont’s Green Mountains with the vibrant energy of Savannah, I relocated to Georgia to immerse myself in a more diverse and expansive artistic landscape. I view my Vermont beginnings as a primary specimen; the folk-scene's intimacy provides the emotional anatomy for every surreal narrative I construct; after all, it’s where I found a passion for connecting old myths, stories, and themes from the past into the contemporary art that flows from my fingertips.
My body of work combines acrylic portraiture and analysis of old photographs and mementos from childhood to explore themes of relinquishment trauma, changes in identity, and how the body holds onto and responds to memories. My goal is to connect the quiet, submerged stories of others to a visual language that is both visceral and deeply narrative. By imbuing the mundane with surreal weight, I ask the viewer to linger in the unsettling space where discomfort gives way to insight.
